Dicty Tracking is a free, fast and easy-to-use standalone tool for semi-automatic tracking of migrating Dictyostelium discoideum cells from phase-contrast time-lapse image series based on MATLAB®. The tool is provided as a .zip package containing sample image series, additional Excel workbooks for further analysis as well as an detailed user guide. Dicty Tracking requires Fiji/ImageJ and the installation of MATLAB Runtime. The tool might be also suitable for other cell types creating prominent halos when imaged with phase-contrast optics, but this has not been tested so far.Version 4 comprises the same files and functionalities as version 3 and older ones with the exception that the standalone executable was packaged by the new MATLAB® version 2017 after experiencing some compatibility issues.
